Creating a roadmap for organization-wide technology initiatives
Intention
Imagine Canada is a charitable organization that supports and strengthens charities and nonprofits in Canada, so they can in turn support the communities they serve. They work through sector research, advocacy efforts, capacity-building resources and other services to support charitable organizations. For over a decade, Salytics has supported Imagine Canada through a range of projects aimed at enhancing their operations and technology. The initiatives have included implementing and integrating new accounting software, improving account engagement, data management for their Grant Connect Program, and developing a community portal with the Standards team, among others. Imagine Canada needed guidance on how to organize and sequence these initiatives effectively, leading to the creation of a roadmap to streamline their efforts.

Implementation
To address this, we facilitated a roadmapping workshop with key stakeholders at Imagine Canada. The objective was to align executive stakeholders behind a technology road map that took a long term strategic view, consolidated systems and took a ‘crawl, walk, run’ approach. The workshop brought focus to both ongoing and future projects, and helped map out the interdepartmental dependencies of each project. In January 2024, Salytics collaborated with Imagine Canada to mature this into a one-year roadmap that sequenced and tracked projects and technology products each with their own estimated budget and timeline.
Impact
The roadmap provided clarity for Imagine Canada, helping them prioritize their initiatives, and allowed Salytics to efficiently plan resources, anticipate challenges, and align project sequencing. This strategic approach ensured that overlapping efforts were avoided and that each initiative could be executed at the right time for maximum impact. Ultimately, the roadmap enabled both organizations to work more effectively toward their shared goal of empowering the nonprofit sector.
